GAMMA Asian Championship 2026 in Malaysia Marks Important Step for PB Pertacami

Indonesia’s national MMA team begins its Asian campaign as part of PB Pertacami’s long-term athlete development program.

PUTRAJAYA, MALAYSIA — Indonesia’s national Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) team, under the Indonesian Mixed Martial Arts Federation (PB Pertacami), has officially begun its campaign at the GAMMA Asian Championship 2026 in Putrajaya, Malaysia.

Indonesia’s participation in the Asian-level championship marks the continuation of a national athlete development program that PB Pertacami has implemented throughout 2026.

The GAMMA Asian Championship 2026 is the first international competition attended by PB Pertacami following the 2026 National MMA Championship in Bogor, held in mid-June. The national championship served as an important stage for evaluating athlete development while also providing opportunities for emerging talents to enter the national team development program.

For PB Pertacami, each level of competition plays a connected role in the athlete development pathway. National championships provide the foundation for domestic development, while continental competitions such as the GAMMA Asian Championship 2026 give Indonesian athletes the opportunity to test their abilities against competitors from different countries before progressing to the world stage.

Part of a Long-Term Development Roadmap

PB Pertacami Chairman Tommy Paulus Hermawan said Indonesia’s participation in the championship is part of the organization’s long-term athlete development roadmap.

“After the National Championship concluded, we immediately moved into the international competition schedule. The GAMMA Asian Championship 2026 is an important stage for assessing the development of Indonesian athletes as they face competition at the Asian level. Every match will serve as an evaluation toward our larger targets in upcoming international events,” Tommy said.

PB Pertacami views the GAMMA Asian Championship 2026 as more than simply a competition for medals. The event provides athletes with valuable experience, allowing them to improve their ability to adapt to different fighting styles while developing their technical and strategic skills against some of the best athletes in Asia.

Over the past several years, PB Pertacami has continued to develop a more structured athlete development system. Its national training camp program incorporates a sport science approach that focuses not only on technical performance but also on physical conditioning, endurance, nutrition, recovery, and mental preparation.

Positive Results on the International Stage

This approach has produced positive results at several international competitions.

At the 4th AMMA Championship 2026 in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, Indonesia secured seven medals, consisting of one gold, one silver, and five bronze medals.

The gold medal was won by Novia Pesik in the women’s Modern MMA 49-kilogram division. Meanwhile, Lukas Oliver Lubis Sedlak claimed silver in the men’s Traditional MMA 65-kilogram U-18 division.

The five bronze medals were won by:

  • Manayra Maritza Hersianti Siagian – Women’s Modern MMA 50 kg (U-18)
  • Vallensia Fahira Hotmauli – Women’s Modern MMA 54 kg
  • Dwi Ani Retno Wulan – Women’s Traditional MMA 54 kg
  • Panca Julian Saputra – Men’s Traditional MMA 60 kg
  • Ananda Wahyu Setyo Prabowo – Men’s Traditional MMA 77 kg

Beyond the seven medals, the competition in Uzbekistan held strategic importance as the final qualification event for the 2026 Asian Games in Japan and the 2026 Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games (AIMAG) in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

The results ensured that Indonesia would continue its campaign at both major multi-sport events.

PB Pertacami considers these achievements a positive indication of the progress being made by Indonesia’s national athletes. Evaluations by the coaching team identified improvements in several key areas, including technical transitions from striking to grappling, control of match tempo, and the ability to adapt to opponents with different fighting characteristics.

Preparing for Stronger Asian Competition

The experience gained in Uzbekistan provides an important foundation for Indonesia’s participation in the GAMMA Asian Championship 2026.

Competition at the Asian level is expected to be highly demanding, as the championship brings together elite athletes from various countries who are also preparing for world championships and other major international sporting events.

Indonesia’s participation in the GAMMA Asian Championship 2026 is therefore part of PB Pertacami’s broader commitment to maintaining continuity in its national athlete development program.

Each competition is utilized not only as an opportunity to pursue medals but also as a platform to evaluate athletes, identify areas for improvement, and strengthen the overall quality of the national team.

Looking Ahead to Major International Events

Following the competition in Malaysia, PB Pertacami will continue its preparations for the next major international events, including the 2026 Asian Games and the 2026 Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games (AIMAG).

These competitions form part of the federation’s long-term development strategy aimed at improving Indonesia’s MMA achievements at both the Asian and global levels.

Through continuous athlete development, the integration of sport science, and broader international competition experience, PB Pertacami remains committed to developing athletes capable of representing Indonesia and competing at the highest level on the international stage.
