Indonesia’s MMA National Championship 2026 Sets the Stage for Four International Competitions

PB Pertacami shifts its focus to international events after the national championship, with athletes preparing for competitions across Asia and the world.

BOGOR, INDONESIA — The 2026 National MMA Championship (Kejurnas MMA 2026) was not only a competition for the national title but also an important part of Indonesia’s athlete development program ahead of international competitions.

Following the conclusion of the championship, the Executive Board of the Indonesian Mixed Martial Arts Federation (PB Pertacami) has immediately shifted its focus toward four major international events that the Indonesian national team is scheduled to participate in throughout 2026.

Through the 2026 National MMA Championship, PB Pertacami evaluated the development of athletes from various regions while assessing the results of training programs implemented at both club and provincial levels. The championship serves as an important platform for identifying athletes capable of competing at the Asian and international levels.

PB Pertacami Chairman Tommy Paulus Hermawan said the international competition calendar presents both a challenge and an opportunity for Indonesian athletes to further improve their performance.

“After the 2026 National MMA Championship concludes, we immediately begin preparing our athletes for international competitions. In the near future, we will participate in the GAMMA Asia Championship 2026 in Kuala Lumpur. Although it is a single event, we will still send our best athletes to compete,” Tommy said in Bogor.

The GAMMA Asia Championship 2026 is scheduled to take place in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, from July 21–26, 2026. The championship will become PB Pertacami’s first international event following the national championship.

In addition, PB Pertacami is preparing athletes for the 2026 Asian Games in Japan, which are scheduled to take place from September 19 to October 4, 2026. Indonesia currently has four athletes who have qualified for the event, while three additional athletes remain on the waiting list under the applicable qualification mechanism.

Four International Agendas in 2026

PB Pertacami’s international campaign will continue after the Asian Games. The national team is scheduled to compete at the Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games (AIMAG) 2026 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, in December 2026.

Indonesia is also expected to participate in the GAMMA World Championship 2026, although the official schedule for the event is still awaiting an announcement from the international federation.

“This year, we have at least four international agendas. Each championship has different characteristics and challenges, so the athletes’ preparation must be carried out gradually and continuously,” Tommy said.

According to Tommy, the results of the 2026 National MMA Championship provide a clearer picture of the quality of Indonesia’s national athletes while also demonstrating the continued development of MMA training programs across the country.

The national championship is not solely focused on short-term achievements. PB Pertacami also uses the competition as part of its athlete scouting and regeneration system.

“Today, we celebrate the champions, but more importantly, we are witnessing the emergence of a new generation of Indonesian MMA athletes. The national championship is not the final destination. It is the gateway to continuous national development and opportunities to compete on the international stage,” Tommy said.

128 Athletes from 51 Clubs Compete

The 2026 National MMA Championship brought together 128 athletes representing 51 clubs from 12 provinces across Indonesia.

The championship featured 21 competition categories across the Senior, U-18, U-16, and U-14 divisions, making it one of Indonesia’s national MMA competitions with a comprehensive athlete development structure.

The participation of athletes from multiple age groups reflects PB Pertacami’s commitment to establishing a sustainable development pathway. Through this system, athletes can develop from an early age before progressing to the national elite level and eventually being considered for international competitions.

Throughout the championship, 33 clubs won medals. HAN Academy emerged as the overall champion after securing four gold, four silver, and three bronze medals.

The results demonstrate the increasingly competitive environment among clubs while also highlighting the broader development of MMA athletes across different regions of Indonesia.

Building a Stronger Pathway to the International Stage

For PB Pertacami, the results of the 2026 National MMA Championship provide an important foundation for designing the federation’s next athlete development programs.

The evaluation of the competition will be used as a basis for planning national training camps, monitoring athlete performance, and preparing the national team for the four international events scheduled throughout 2026.

With an increasingly busy competition calendar and rising levels of international competition, PB Pertacami remains committed to maintaining a sustainable athlete development system through high-quality national competitions, the integration of sports science, and structured training programs.

Through these efforts, PB Pertacami hopes that more Indonesian MMA athletes will be able to compete at a high level and achieve success while representing Indonesia on the international stage.
